Pine River Association

Woody Debris Management

  • Met with USFS and Liveries
  • Participated in annual float trip with USFS and Livery representatives
  • Volunteered to work with USFS to rearrange logs/trees with minimal or no cutting
  • Volunteered to work with USFS to inventory log jams

Litter Control

  • Handed out onion bags to canoeists for litter
  • Talked with canoeists about litter control
  • Advocated to have litter bags in rental watercraft

Rowdy Behavior Control

  • Met with USFS and liveries to discuss rowdy behavior

Stream Bank Stabilization

  • Many critical banks stabilized through our efforts with PRWRC
  • Opportunity for installation of woody debris through MDNR
  • Provided Seedlings for Planting Near the River and on the Riverbank
  • Provided Instruction for Planting
  • Visited River Land Owners to Advise on Bank Stabilization

Natural Rivers Protection - Part of the Effor to Protect

  • Pine River Watershed
  • Upper Manistee River Watershed
  • PRA Board Memeber serves on Oversight Committee
  • Advocate for Natural Rivers Protection with landowners

PRWRC and CRA Partnering Activities

  • Road Erosion Control
  • Bridge and Culvert Replacements

Pine River Watershed Enhancement Fund 

230 Avenue Public Access Site and Stream Improvement

  • Instrumental in bringing invested parties together to plan and organize site improvements
  • Public Access Site Improvements - Trail enhancement, limited vehicle access to the river to 200 feet, planted trees with vocational class from Cadillac and replanted trees in ensuring years, do yearly trail maintenance

Woody Debris Management

  • Provided Demonstration Day for Woody Debris Installation
  • Provide Log Anchors and Instruction to Property owners
  • Demonstrate where the Anchors and Cable Could Be Used

Sand Trap

  • Located Site
  • Helped to Establish and Get DNRE Approval for Sand Trap
  • Help set up a Permanent Multiagency Funding Process 
  • Provided Partial Regular Funding Until Its Closure
